The duties and responsibilities of the Treasurer are defined by state law and authorization of the County Board of Commissioners. The Treasurer serves as the custodian of all County funds, signs all checks, collects and disperses all delinquent real property taxes; handles dog licenses and fees. The Treasurer is responsible for accounting of all revenue coming to the county, investment of idle funds, securities and monies held in financial institutions, certification of deeds, plat maps and all other documents pertaining to tax histories and litigations; also prepares for and manages the annual tax sale on behalf of the State Treasury.

Credit Card Payments

The Office of Gladwin County Treasurer accepts credit card payments for taxes through Graphite Municipalities. This service is available in person, online, or by phone.

Graphite charges a 2.50% fee ($1.00 minimum) for this service that will be charged to your credit card. Most major credit and debit cards are accepted (Visa, MasterCard, Discover). Graphite notifies us immediately after payment has been made, and the payment will post to your account once it is accepted by the county.

Tax Reverted Land Sale

The sale is held periodically to dispose of lands forfeited for non-payment of taxes. The latest list is available on line at http://tax-sale.info/ and includes all terms and conditions.

DOG License Information

All dogs in Gladwin County must have a current rabies certificate and be licensed. Licenses must be renewed annually. Dog licenses are sold in the Treasurer’s office and at the Animal Shelter from November 1st until the end of February.

As of March 1st, tags are available only from the Treasurer’s office, and are delinquent (except for puppies) and subject to the delinquent tag fee. You must present a current rabies certificate to purchase any dog license.

When are property taxes billed and due?

Summer taxes are billed on July 1st and payable without interest by September 14th, except for Gladwin City. Winter taxes are billed on December 1st and payable without interest by February 14th. Current taxes are payable to the township or city treasurer through February 28th.

When do taxes become delinquent?

March 1st current taxes are turned over to the County Treasurer for collection.

i never received my original tax bill. do i have to pay the delinquent fees?

Yes, you do.  It is the taxpayer’s responsibility to make sure that they receive the tax bill in order to pay it on time.  If you have not received your summer bill by the middle of July, or your winter bill by the middle of December, you need to contact your Township/City Treasurer.  The County Treasurer’s Office cannot provide you with that bill.

When will delinquent notices be mailed?

Delinquent notices are mailed out no later than June 1st by first class mail. They are mailed again no later than September 1st via first class and again in January by certified mail.

ARE POSTMARKS ACCEPTED FOR PAYMENT DATE?

No, they are not.  The payment date is the date the payment is received and processed by our office.  Payments are processed the day they are received.

When will property be subject for forfeiture?

One year from date of delinquency on March 1st. Title search and fees are applied $340 and interest increased from 1% per month to 1.5% per month, retroactively to date returned delinquent to County Treasurer.

How will pending foreclosure be notified?

June – February 28th a process server will visit each parcel and serve a copy of notice and post it. Notices are printed by publication for 2 consecutive weeks in local newspaper. Taxes that are subject to foreclosure must be paid in full with cash or money order before March 31st to avoid foreclosure.

HOW DO I PURCHASE FORECLOSED PROPERTY?

After foreclosure, parcels available for auction will be shown on www.tax-sale.info.  This is the website where our auction is held, and the information on the parcels being auctioned should be available on the website and in our office in late June or early July.

When and where are Board of Reviews (BOR) conducted?

Board of reviews are conducted twice per year at the local level, in July and December. Contact your township assessor for exact details.

Why would I need to contact my aSSessor?

You may contact your township assessor with questions regarding Homeowner’s Principal Residence Exemption, Taxable Value, Hardship Exemptions, Veteran’s Exemptions, and all Board of Review questions.
