Human Resources Coordinator

Position Overview

Gladwin County is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Human Resources Coordinator to support the daily operations of the County’s Human Resources functions within the Administration Department. This position plays a key role in recruitment, employee relations, labor relations, benefits administration, policy implementation, compliance, and personnel record management.

The Human Resources Coordinator serves as a resource for County employees, Department Heads, and Elected Officials, ensuring the consistent application of personnel policies and procedures while maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality and professionalism.

Salary

Salary will be determined based on qualifications, experience, and the successful candidate’s background.

Starting at $50,000.00

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage recruitment efforts, including job postings, applicant tracking, interview scheduling, candidate communications, and onboarding activities.

  • Maintain personnel, medical, and human resources records with a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality.

  • Administer employee benefits programs, including enrollment, changes, and responding to employee inquiries.

  • Serve as a resource to Department Heads, Elected Officials, and County employees regarding personnel policies, procedures, and employment-related questions.

  • Assist in the development, implementation, interpretation, and annual review of County Personnel Policies.

  • Coordinate employee orientation, training programs, and professional development opportunities.

  • Monitor compliance with applicable federal and state employment laws and regulations, including but not limited to:

    • Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)

    • Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)

    • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

    • Bullard-Plawecki Employee Right to Know Act

    • Persons with Disabilities Civil Rights Act

  • Assist with payroll coordination and verification as needed.

  • Participate in special projects and organizational initiatives.

  • Assist with Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Public Administration, or a related field.

  • Experience supporting recruitment, benefits administration, employee relations, disciplinary actions, and HR administration.

  • Experience maintaining personnel records and HR documentation.

Strongly Preferred

  • Three to five years of human resources or administrative experience, preferably in a public-sector environment.

  • Knowledge of employment standards, workplace policies, and personnel administration.

  • Working knowledge of software systems utilized by county government operations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of human resources principles and public-sector employment practices preferred.

  • Understanding of the Public Employment Relations Act (PERA) and Michigan Employment Relations Commission (MERC) processes.

  • Familiarity with federal and state employment laws and regulations.

  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.

  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, and BS&A software systems.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with departments across the organization.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with Department Heads, Elected Officials, employees, and the public.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform work in a standard office environment.

  • Ability to sit, stand, and use standard office equipment for extended periods.

Additional Requirements

  • Must comply with all County policies and procedures.

  • Successful completion of a background check is required.

Treasurer's Office - Tax Foreclosure Class Action Settlement

Gladwin County is participating in a settlement of claims for surplus proceeds from tax foreclosure auctions before 2021. The settlement is for properties that were sold for more than the outstanding taxes and expenses between 2013 and 2020. Class members are persons or entities that had an ownership interest in the property. The case is Fox, et al. v. Saginaw, County, et al. Case No. 1:19-cv-11887, pending in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
